CONSEQUENCES OF SUFFERING THE SPIRIT OF JEZEBEL

The article below is a warning to us all in these last days.  I pray it will be received in humility, as it goes out from me in that manner.

We are truly in times which seem to be getting more and more grievous for the people of God.  All too often evil is called good and good is called evil.  We can be doing almost everything right in God’s eye, and yet lack something which will cost us, our families, and others dearly in the judgments which may be at the door and the consequences of our inaction from now until then.  What can we learn from the “Letter to the Church at Thyatira” and other Scripture?

In Revelation 2:18–29 God reveals what He likes about that church and what He dislikes.

First let us look at the “good” they were commended on.  God told them He knew their works, charity (love), service, faith, and patience (endurance).  These are all good traits; we should ask Him to be empowered by His Holy Spirit to carry out.  Please note these brethren were showing love, and patience (endurance) with each other.  They exhibited faith and had works and service (fruit) to prove their faith, not just talk about their faith.

They must have thought themselves a “loving congregation” and thought they were properly handling issues which tend to arise in any body; however, they were wrong, deadly wrong!

“Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that women Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols.” Rev. 2:20

How could something like this not be seen?  Wouldn’t it be like ignoring the “elephant in the room”?

The spirit of Jezebel is real, seductive, and causes death to her children.  It is hard to see at work because it “seduces” its victims.  It speaks lovely words which at first edifies and flatters its prey to open its foot hold, and then plants seeds of cancer which manifest, conceive, and ultimately bring forth further death to the victim’s children.  This is a joyous thing for the adversary, but grieves the heart of God.

The Spirit of Jezebel is understood as a “controlling spirit”, primarily residing in women, which desires to rule over her husband and any others around her.  It doesn’t seek to kill her husband, or get rid of him entirely because that would release him from her control.  Where you find "a Jezebel" you will likely find "an Ahab" first.  She becomes like cancer which sickens her prey to make them weak and controllable, but doesn’t seek to cast them away, lest she lose the game she plays.  She must remain in control through any means necessary.  To her, losing control is unacceptable, so in the end, even her children’s death takes a backseat to the higher priority of keeping control of her husband.  Children therefore are used as “weapons” and therefore are symbolically offered unto Molech.  How does it bring death to her children?  The spirit of Jezebel leads to a break down of God’s ways, an orderly household and causes her children to lose their faith.  Her hypocrisy and “partiality” to His word can spread like a cancer.  It can lead to generational curses where her daughters can develop the same spirit which refuses a “covering” of her future husband and continues the cycle.  It can also lead her sons to having the spirit of Ahab, so they are primed to even unknowingly seek a wife that exhibits “controlling” tendencies like his mother.  This makes bringing up a Godly seed nearly impossible; although all things are possible with God.  Those who are raised to become ungodly will end up in the lake of fire, so the end estate of both is the fire.

Does this seem too strong a summary?  I believe it might not go far enough.  God sees her actions as akin to “committing adultery”, and causing others to commit fornication and eat things sacrificed to idols.  This is because her actions turn people from following God’s ways, and fools them into appeasing her instead; it is to serve and worship at her feet.

So what does it mean to “suffer” Jezebel?  The word in Greek is Strong’s 1439, which is “eao” (eh-ah-o), and is defined as: to let be; to permit; or to leave alone.  The Strong’s suggest we also see 1436, to see the root.  Where do we first see this word or root in the NT?  We find Yeshua (Jesus) speaking in the synagogue (church / assembly) when a man with unclean spirits speaks “Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth?(Mark 1:24a).  Notice the words translated as ”Let us alone” is the Strong’s word 1436, root of 1439.  The unclean spirit asks to not be dealt with, allowing it to continue to reside and do its damage.  It is asking Yeshua to “suffer it”, rather than cast it out.

How did Yeshua deal with the person who had the unclean spirit?  And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him. (Mark 1:25)  From the beginning of the NT, Yeshua teaches us unclean spirits are to be: 1) rebuked, 2) told to hold their peace; and 3) and commanded to come out.  To suffer the spirit is to “let it alone”, allowing it to further do its deadly tasks.  Yeshua didn’t waste time trying to appease it, hoping the behavior would change.  Notice, the unclean spirit was right inside the congregation, in one who must have seemed to be “one of the body of believers”.

So we see Yeshua immediately taught them not to “suffer” unclean spirits.  So why did the Church of Thyatira suffer the spirit of Jezebel?  Were they trying to “love her back to the Lord”?  Did they think, because they still stumbled in sin, they couldn’t cast the first stone?  Did they think it was a virtue to be long patient and suffering of even an unclean spirit?  Maybe they loved the rest of her family too much.  Maybe they thought they were needed to minister to her children.  These are possible reasons, and maybe they justified their decision to suffer that Jezebel spirit, but, however virtuous they believed they were being, God did not approve.  In fact He planned to hold them accountable as a “body” for suffering the woman Jezebel.

Note, Yeshua doesn’t just search our hearts, but also our reins (Rev. 2:23).  He won’t just judge the decision of our hearts because many are actually just made by our emotions; but He will search our reins also; the means by which He moves us to act, like the leanings or pressure one would use to steer a horse.

It would seem the Church of Thyatira was seeing some good fruit from its works and therefore ignored, or had a blind spot, to the evidence of death around them.  They seemed to be ignorant of the tentacles and seeds of death planted by this Jezebel spirit.  Maybe they ignored how she was not submitted to her husband because, at least, she was not keeping her family from “fellowship”.  How could the unclean spirit want to keep coming to the house of God if it was so evil?  Why? Because that is exactly where she can cause the most death to God’s children!  This is where she can secretly tell other wives things like “You really have good things to say, your husband should listen to you.” Or “You should stand up to your husband for what you believe”.  She seduces the women into receiving the same controlling spirit.  She doesn’t come right out against the victim’s husband, she first likes to “cry on a caring shoulder” about her own husband’s faults.  These “faults” are always how her husband seeks to control her wrongly and therefore is an abuser.  She likes to tell other women how sometimes she just feels like a prisoner in her own family.  She tugs at the heart of her victim to garnish sympathy, while all along is planting seeds and setting her hook to turn the situation around and have her victim begin to question whether she is also in an “abusive relationship”.  She wants to tell anyone who will listen how oppressive her husband really is.

The next step will be to have her victim seek the same “knowledge” Jezebel found to justify herself.  These will be worldly web sites, books, and chat rooms, where the spirit of Jezebel can be fed and grown strong and supported by teachers and demon possessed people who will tickle the ears, rather than calling out the unclean spirit.  Man’s wisdom and psychology replace God’s scripture and the council of the Godly.  Sadly, this evil spirit can even turn to the legal system, rather than the Biblical model, allowing “brethren” to judge the matter.  It will not allow itself to be brought before the brethren, lest it be exposed.  It will rather seek “private council” so in the end it can ignore the council by condemning the “counselors”, thereby justifying not listening to their council.  I know a case in which this process has happened over and over and over.  The counselors may also be discounted for not first reading the materials it feels must be read in order to be a “qualified counselor”.  The Bible becomes insufficient in its eyes in the end analysis.

Many of you may also know of similar situations, or have observed this spirit of Jezebel raise its head.  Maybe you know someone who appears to be under its control.  Maybe it is within your home or fellowship right now.  Maybe you realize you have this spirit.  In either of these possibilities, what do you intend to do about it?  Will you suffer it any longer?

Conclusion:

We know Yeshua will hold it against us if we “suffer a Jezebel spirit”.  We know He will cast her into the great tribulation along with those who suffer her.  Most also believe we are nearing the time of great tribulation, so time seems of the essence.  What must be done by the children of God to avoid the judgment?   Be willing to obey God’s word on this matter and quit suffering the Jezebel spirit immediately!

If you realize this Jezebel spirit; or the spirit of Ahab which enables it is in you, repent, rebuke it by name, and cast it out in Yeshua’s name.  Repent and ask your husband and family for forgiveness.  Confess your sin to those you have been in fellowship with and be willing to go and dig up the seeds you have planted.   Ask others to hold you accountable to your decision and pray for you to be strengthened in His Holy Spirit.  Be usable by God to help others see this spirit as you will be equipped better to see it.

What can a husband do who believes his wife has this spirit?  He can rebuke the spirit by name, tell it to hold its peace, and command it to come out in Yeshua’s name.  What does he do if this does not work?  If this is not successful, he must bring the matter to the “fellowship”, first with a few witnesses, and if that is not successful, seek to bring his wife before the church.  Please be aware, the spirit of Jezebel does not want to be exposed for what it is and this step can result in opening the gates of hell against him and others who would try and expose it.  Although he needs the support of his brethren in prayer, he needs to recognize he must, at all costs, keep her from reaching out to seduce and try to create any other potential victims.  He must therefore love his neighbor as himself by “setting his family outside of the camp” until the uncleanness passes away.  I have erred on not making this a strong council in the past.  What if his wife insists on going out to fellowships without him, or wants to take the children there?  He must strongly insist she not go, restrict the children from leaving, ensure the family has a house study to study the word of God until the uncleanness passes.  He may even go as far as communicating to any brethren she might seek out in fellowship and insist they not welcome her, warning them to also not suffer this unclean spirit.  He then must pray as to what lengths he must go to in order to break the spirit of Jezebel before it causes the death of his children.

What must the body of believers do?  The scripture commands us to not fellowship with those who are disorderly (2 Thess. 3), count them not as enemy; but rather admonish them as a brother.  The one with the spirit of Jezebel must be cast out of fellowship and turned over to Satan for the destruction of her flesh, so the soul might be saved.  Many may consider this harsh rather than the instructions of Scripture.  They might rather “feel” they are needed to minister.  They are, in fact, deadly wrong.  This attitude is exactly what Yeshua calls “suffering” the spirit of Jezebel, and therefore is sin itself.  This sin is so bad in Yeshua’s sight He will cast those in great tribulation along with the one who has the spirit.  You become a partaker in her sin, and her reproach of God will come upon your own heads, unless you repent and hold fast, keeping His word to the end.

The problem occurs when the “body” is not acting in unity in this matter.  When Jezebel can just find another gathering, she never has to face the shame of being set outside the camp.  Even Miriam (Moses’ sister) was made to face the shame of a controlling spirit by being made “unclean” and having to spend 7 days isolated outside the camp.  Miriam was made to do this even though she repented.  Repentance must always come first, before such a one is allowed back in the camp!

What must you do if the fellowship gathering you are in does not deal with a spirit of Jezebel, and you want to?  You must be first a watchman and warn them.  They are in sin and need to repent to God and do the right thing; casting out the spirit of Jezebel from being welcomed in the gathering (camp).  If they will not heed your warning (which is actually God’s warning from Rev. 2), then you must consider them “disorderly”, and in sin also, and remove yourself from that fellowship.  Find a gathering which honors God in truth and spirit, one which will obey God in all matters.  This is very, very hard to do, especially where you may love the people very much; yet, you must make a stand for God’s word and ways.  If you do not, though you were opposed to Jezebel, I believe you will still be guilty of suffering her.  If you know what was good to do, and not do it, God calls it sin in James 4:17.

The quicker the matter is identified, quarantined, and dealt with; the number of casualties can be minimized.  If we are the temple of the living God, we are therefore to come out from among them and be separate, and touch not that which is unclean  and God will receive us (1 Cor. 6:15-7:1).  We cannot have the attitude of continuing to love-on, dance with, hug, and touch the unclean spirit, and not receive all the filthiness of the flesh and that unclean spirit itself.  This passage above starts by asking the question of “And what concord (joining) hath Christ with Belial (Baal)?” (verse 15).  Jezebel was the leader of the prophets of Baal.  How much more should we take heed to not suffer this particular unclean spirit of Baal in these last days?

Son of man, I have made thee a watchman unto the house of Israel: therefore hear the word at my mouth, and give them warning from me.  When I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die; and thou givest him not warning, nor speakest to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life; the same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand.

Yet, if thou warn the wicked, and he turn not from his wickedness, nor from his wicked ways, he shall die in his iniquity; but thou hast delivered thy soul.  Ezk. 3:17-19

The Common Salvation

"Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation..." Jude 1:3

And this "salvation" in Hebrew is the word "Yeshua" which is Jesus'; name in the language he grew up with.  So when you read the word "salvation" in the Scripture, know that they were saying Yeshua.   Remember that it is Yeshua (Jesus) that is the lamb of God slain before the foundations of the worlds.   Lastly, know this, that as we read the account of Abraham and Isaac in Genesis 22 we find that it was because Abraham did not withhold his beloved son from Yehovah, that Yehovah did not withhold His only beloved son from us.  Because of Abraham's faith, Yehovah provided "Himself a sacrifice"!  It is written that this is the basis of the covenant of Salvation (Yeshua) because by it are all able to enter in by faith.    We did not enter a new covenant with Yehovah, but entered in to the one He made with Abraham.  The next time someone says they entered into a new covenant, ask them if they offerred up their own son to Yehovah, or are they actually entering into what Abraham did with Isaac.    In Genesis 26:5 we find Yehovah explaining to Moses why He made the covenant with Abraham:   Because that Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws (Torah in Hebrew).   Yeshua is God isn't He?  So when it says Abraham obeyed His voice, we can know that Abraham heard the word of God, or Yeshua's voice.   We know that is was also Yeshua, once He had come in the flesh that said "My sheep hear my voice and they follow Me".  This is exactly what Genesis 26:5 says isn't it?  You see how God is the same yesterday (with Abraham) today, and in the furture.  If we are Abraham's children, we are to walk in the steps of Abraham, and therefore should pattern our life after his obedience described in Genesis 26:5.   As the love of many waxes cold (towards God) because iniquity (lawlessness/torahless) abounds in these last days, seek His face like you never have before, and love Him enough to obey all His commandments just like Abraham demonstrated, and just how Yeshua demonstrated to perfect (as He was without sin).   Does every aspect of your walk with God, look exactly the same as Yeshua demonstrated?  If not, change yourself to His ways as a loving bride awaiting her bridgegroom.  Be conformed to His likes and dislikes, rather than expecting Him to change for us.  Paul tells us to self examine ourselves.    Start by examining whether you worship at the same appointed times as Yeshua Himself did and gave Moses (see Lev. 23) and make sure you read Ezk. chapters 40 - 48 to see what He brings back (also Zach. 14 feast of tabernacles)?  Remember Yeshua never sinned, so in keeping of these He was without sin.   As many believe that we could be raptured at any moment, wouldn't it seem only wise to start preparing for how we shall live if that happens now?  If you found you were being transferred to another country for your job, would you expect them to obey the laws you were raised with, or would you need to conform to the laws in the land you headed to?  Of course you would study the news lands laws and prepare for the move.  Paul says we are sojourners in this current world, and that we are already citizen's in that place we seek, and with the One that will rule over us.  If we believe that, I see no reason to not start to comply with His ways now, in loving anticipation to be a bride spotless and awaiting her husband.    Yeshua said "If I go, I shall come again and recieve you unto Me, for where I am you shall be also.  Unless the plan changes (yeah right) His feet will touch the Mount of Olives and we that are His will all be together with Him.  That will be Israel and we will see the fulfillment of the passages in Ezekiel chapters 40 through 48.   Have you studied those passages?  Does your heart leap with joy for those things which He will restore so much you desire to begin as soon as possible?  Or does the fact we will be under the authority of Zadok priests who will teach us the difference between clean and unclean, holy and profane, and that will judge all matters of our lives by the law (see first five books of your Bible) concern you?  Could it be you are actually in enmity towards these laws as they appear in Genesis through Deuteronomy?   It is OK to admit that, because it is the first step to fixing that attitude.  Please read Romans 8 and find that the enmity towards the law, is a symptom of something you may not like to be told about in His words, yet there it is in Romans 8:5-8, it is a symptom of being of the flesh or carnal, not being lead by the spirit of God.  Yeshua walked perfectly in these ways and said He came to do all the father told Him to do, out of love towards the Father.  Yeshua was not at enmity with His own Torah, and we too; if we are walking as He walked; will not be carnal towards it either.  You see you prove if you are carnally minded, and therefore at enmity towards God (Romans 8:7) when you are not suject to the Torah.    These are not my words; but Paul's.  We have no condemnation when we walk not after the flesh (wanting our own ways more than His) but after the spirit (which can not oppose God's instruction in His laws).  So walking in the spirit, sets us free from wanting to walk contrary to His ways (sin) that is that the soul that sins can look forward to the wages of sin being death (law of sin and death).  But those that have been delivered from the bondage of sin, can then walk in obedient with a new heart (Romans 6:17-18).   Haleluyah that Yeshua doesn't just forgive our sin, He gives a new heart, one that loves Him and His ways, so we can walk just like He did.   Do you really love Him?  Then keep His commandments!   I miss you guys and think on you often.  Be blesses and remember that men's doctrines will all fail, so we should stick with God's Good Doctrine written in Proverbs 4:2 "I give you good doctrine, forsake ye not my Torah".  Those are His words, maybe we should start obeying His doctrines, not those of men, or our fathers.  Those doctrines are ones we will find were lies and vanity (Jer. 16:19), so why not take Him up on His word and  "Stand ye in the ways, and See, and Ask for the old paths" where in is the good ways, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls (Jer. 6:16-19) and beware the rebellion and punishment for those who will not hearken to His word or Torah; but reject it (or Him, as He is the word of God isn't He?).  You all will be fulfilling prophesy regardless of which way you go; only the reward He brings is different: everlasting life or everlasting contempt and shame (Daniel 12).   Your obedience does not save you!  It only demonstrates whether you are really saved!   Shalom!   Jack Jackson - Bondservant of Yeshua HaMashiach Minister Where You Are - Founder http://ministerwhereyouare.blogspot.com Have you inherited lies from your fathers that inherited them? “My People Perish For Lack Of Vision”

If you what to hear many different “opinions”, ask people when they think Yeshua (Jesus) will return to the world.  The details of the timing are hard to figure out.  That would seem by design from the Creator, for the sake of the enemy.

If you want to know “details” about what we will be doing once Yeshua comes back you can find many Scriptures which outline the future kingdom to a very detailed description: This is why the devil wants us to focus on the “time of the return” rather than the details of how we will all be living once that moment arrives.  If the people would focus on the details of how we who believe will live once He comes back it would bring unity and “vision” rather than “division”.

Many people today are lost in a sea of men’s opinions regarding when He will return; pre-trib; mid-trib; post-trib; no-trib; but have you ever considered that that is exactly where Satan wants the battle to be?  If he can have brethren fight over the much debated timing of His return, they will not go further in the study to look at what the Bible outlines regarding what we can expect to be doing once our Bridegroom sets us the new house for us.  Remember, He said He was going to prepare a place and would return so that we could be with Him forever more.

So what is the vision the adversary doesn’t want us to see?  The best passage of Scripture I have found giving a detailed look at the “Kingdom Coming” can be found in Ezekiel chapters 40 - 48.  Remember that in the “Lord’s Prayer” He taught us to pray “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done”.  Did you ever consider what you are asking for?  What kind of kingdom are we asking for?  Do we realize we are asking for His will and His ways, not our own?  If we are going to live according to His ways and will, doesn’t is make sense to study what those ways will look like?  Since He could come back at any time, is there wisdom in not only studying those ways; but also wouldn’t is be wise to start living in His future ways today so that when He returns doesn’t have to correct us?

Hopefully we can all agree that there is wisdom in studying the way we will live in the kingdom coming, and to even start living the way we will be in the future.  If you agree then let us proceed to examine the aspects of the way we shall live, compare them to the way we live today, and consider what changes we might make today, while it is still today.

In Ezekiel 40 we get a detailed discription of the future Temple of God which immediately challenges some widely held doctrine.  Just the fact that there will be Temple is news to some.  When we get to Ezk 40:39-42 we find the new Temple will have tables for slaying sacrifices and preparing burnt offerings! Yes, in His future kingdom the Levitical system of sacrifices by Levites is fully restored with Yeshua as the High Priest.  By Ezk 42:12 we find that the LORD himself shall again be eating the most holy things and offerings.

Chapter 43 begins the vision of the glory of God entering the Temple again.  Note what He says about the Temple in Ezk 43:7  “And he said unto me, Son of man, the place of my throne, and the place of the soles of my feet, where I will dwell in the midst of the children of Israel forever...”  I can only imagine how incredible that will be, can you?  By verse 11 of that chapter He describes that His people will be ashamed as they see how their ways have differed from His.  “ And if they be ashamed of all that they have done, show them the form of the house, and the fashion thereof, and the goings out thereof, and the comings in thereof, and all the forms thereof, and all the Torah thereof, and write it in their sight, that they may keep the whole form thereof, and all the ordinances thereof, and do them.”  Note these are not just to show them, but so they also know they are to do them.  He then hammers home the house rules in verse 12.

“This is the Torah of the house; Upon the top of the mountain the whole limit thereof round about shall be kodesh, kodesh.  Behold the Torah of the house.” Ezk 43:9. We will again be living out the Torah of God as His people and He as our God.

What will the Torah include?

Only those circumcised of both heart and flesh will be allowed in His sanctuary (44:7-9).

The Levites will again minister to the people with a specific group (Sons of Zadok) ministering directly to the Lord (44:10-25).  Please note the specific duties of the Zadok Priests in verse 23 “And they shall teach my people the difference between the holy and profane, and cause them to discern between the unclean and clean.  And in controversy they shall stand in judgment and they shall judge it according to my judgments; and they shall keep my Torah and my statutes in all mine assemblies (moedim); and they shall hallow my Sabbaths.”  Note that we will again have to be taught the difference between the holy Shabbat and rest of the week.  We will be again taught that there is a difference between clean and unclean things, such as what we eat.  We find here that there are statutes for His assemblies, the word in Hebrew for His appointed times is moedim, outlined originally in Lev. 23.  Finally, His Sabbaths will be hallowed again.

We will be coming together on His holy Sabbaths again, and new moons.  In fact verse 45:17 tells us that Prince himself will offer sacrifices in the feast, new moons and Sabbaths.  The Feasts of God will be our ways again as Yeshua did them and as He gave them originally to Moses.  In 45:18-25 we find all the feasts that our Messiah did, which most have left off doing, are for all the world again.  We will worship the Lord Yeshua at the door of His gate on His Sabbaths and new moons (verse 46:3), just as Isaiah also confirmed in 66:22-23.

The Torah then will be the same as He gave it to Moses.  Also, water will flow from the alter healing the seas and watering healing trees (chapter 47).  And we will all be given a portion of land, whether natural born of grafted in (47:22-23).

So with this vision of the coming kingdom, how then shall we live today?

If we do not know where we are going, any road will get us there; however, if we know where we are going and how we will live once we are there, then we can establish a “vision”: a common goal, that will bring unity among the brethren, not division.  People argue what is good doctrine to follow.  It has, in fact, divided His people into thousands of denominations around the world.  His arrival will end all the debates forever.  He will quickly show that He was serious when He stated “I give you good doctrine, forsake ye not my Torah” Proverbs 4:2, as He brings back the very thing He gave to Moses, kept Himself, and taught to his disciples.  We will quickly find the we had inherited the lies of our fathers (Jer. 16:19)

But seeing what is coming back at any moment, why wouldn’t we start to study His Torah and begin to conform to His image and His ways?  Our Bridegroom has left us a blueprint of what to start doing so we can be found already doing them when He arrives.

Yes, we are saved by grace through faith, but that does not mean we shouldn’t live today as we will once He returns.  Paul is hard to understand in many verses, but Romans 3:31 is not when he states with emphasis “By faith do we make void the Torah?  God forbid, by faith we establish it.”   You see, we are to pray “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done” and Paul knew what Ezk.40–48 described about that kingdom.

We need to develop a love for not only our Messiah, but also for His coming ways and Torah.  A Bride should love her Bridegroom enough to change to her ways, be conformed to His image, not thinking to change Him; even if the Bride is comfortable in her ways.  Do you worship today on His appointed times?  Are you living according to His Torah which will be the Law of the land, the rules of the house?

As I write this I am in the second day of the Feast of Dedication.  What better time to dedicate the “temples of our living bodies” to be conformed to all His coming ways, and be cleaned up from any ways which are not His?  Won’t you ask Him today to help you come to love His ways and change you into His image of a good Bride?  May the Lord bless you for your decision to die to yourself and your own ways and turn to His ways which we will be forever living in, as we pray: Come Quickly!

Only God Can Teach an Old Dog New Tricks!

What you are looking at is amazing all by itself. How often, if ever, have you seen a dog
walk on top of a six feet high block wall, with a rounded top? A cat yes; but a dog? I
know what you must be asking, “How did you train your dog to do that?”
We moved into our new home in Indio, California three weeks ago. This home was a
model and we had been waiting for the developer to finally turn it over to us. One thing
we had noticed from our frequent visits to our future home was that we would
occasionally see dog droppings in the backyard. It seemed obvious to us that someone
was allowing their dog entrance to our yard for its potty breaks. With six feet high walls,
and no signs of digging underneath, how else could a dog get in to do it’s business?
Upon moving in, I was startled one day to find the dog pictured above in my backyard. I
recognized it as my neighbor ‘s dog. Have you ever asked a dog a question? Without
realizing what I was doing, I asked, “How did you get in here?” Well, he didn’t exactly
answer me, but rather demonstrated for me by running into our back corner, leaping, and
scaling the wall back into his yard.
Great! Now I move into a house with a six feet high walled fence and still can’t keep out
the neighbor’s dog. Our friends from across the court mentioned that this dog was
notorious for visits to yards, and leaving presents behind, if you know what I mean. As a
brand new neighbor, the last way I wanted to introduce myself to a new neighbor was in a
conversation asking him to keep his dog out of my yard. Is anything too hard for God?
Is any problem too unimportant to bring to the throne of God?
I did what any Christian should do. I took my problem to the Lord in prayer. In my
prayer, I asked God to figure out how to keep that dog out of my yard so I would not
have to confront my neighbor.
A few days later, we had friends over after church. After a great time of fellowship, our
girls ran off to play with our friend’s daughter, and we all went to relax on the couch. I
had my back to the yard, but my friend had the view shown in the picture above.
Suddenly he said, “That is something you don’t see every day”. To all our surprise we
turned and saw the neighbors dog, walking along the wall. The dog walked slowly along
the entire length of the yard, and then jumped into our other neighbor’s yard. Amazingly,
this dog bypassed my yard by walking atop the six feet high wall, only to get to the next
yard.
God had miraculously answered my prayer. Coincidence, you ask? 10 minutes later he
walked back across to his yard. In fact, the dog walked back and forth several more
times that evening. In fact, it seems to be pattern for the dog around 7 PM. Several days
later, I met my other new neighbor, the one who had the dog enter her yard after walking
along my fence. She had just moved into her new model, as well. She informed us that
her Priest (she is Catholic) was coming over to bless her home, and asked us if we wanted
him to bless our house as well. We told her that we had asked God to bless our house
already and then told her about the answer to prayer. Her response was “Can you pray
for our yard too”?
Do I have any other witnesses? Glad you asked. I know that pictures can be changed in
this age of technology. Last night my Christian Business Men’s Forum meeting was at
our home. During dinner, we had a great laugh when I told them about how God
answered my prayer. This answer to prayer has already allowed me many chances to
glorify God. As we all sat down on the couch after dinner for our meeting, I said that I
really needed to get my camera just in case the dog walked on the wall again. I knew the
picture of the dog would certainly be unique and allow me to write a letter like this and
share how awesome our God is. Sure enough as we sat down, I looked at my watch, it
was 7 PM , and here he came, right on time. You think God wanted me to get that
picture? Absolutely!
God proves again that He answers prayers that are asked in the name of His Son, Jesus
Christ. He also proves that only God can teach an old dog, new tricks.

Surprise, Surprise: God is in Control!

Ever met someone and thought, "Even God couldn't save this one". Come on; admit it. We all look around in our comings and goings and see people that we feel are lost causes. Here is a story that reminds us who is really in control.

At the Grubstake days, a women and man walked up to take the two question test (Are you going to heaven?). When they handed their tests to Alex, and he read her answer, he tapped me and said "you may want to join us". She was wearing black, with dark makeup, and had nail earrings. If that wasn't cause enough to doubt if the Lord would reach her, her answers did. When asked if she was going to heaven, her answer was "No". Her answer to why was what got Alex's attention; "I love Satan", was her reason.

Alex response was obviously from the Lord. He asked "Since you believe in Satan, you must also believe in God and the Bible that tells us about Satan?" She answered "yes". Alex then said he didn't understand then why she loved Satan. Her answer was that Satan allowed her to have fun, and she wasn't to have fun while she could. Alex then questioned her about why she was willing to trade eternity in hell for a few years of fun. Little did we know it, but she had been prepared at that point to really consider her fate.

We then shared the Ten Commandments, and they both admitted to breaking them, and that they would have to plead guilty, if God judged them by His Commandments. The Law had now plowed through their thawing heart. The Gospel was then truly God's Good News about His love and forgiveness. To our surprise, both prayed and accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.

One minute she came up loving Satan; 15 minutes later she left as a "born again" believer. God is certainly in control, and His ways are not our ways. I know that I learned to never discount anyone coming to know the Lord, because it is He that calls them. Our job is to trust His Word (Holy Bible) and its power unto salvation. This was just another example that "The Law of the Lord, is perfect in converting the soul" Psalm 19:7 It awakens the soul to it's fate, and prepares the way of the Gospel to not sound foolish, nor as a stumbling block, but the power of God unto salvation.

Destiny and Fate Meet at a Carnival

Does it really matter if we preach the Gospel at small carnivals? What if some are
offended? Could God’s plan even include a little carnival in 29 Palms? Should we give
up an afternoon, or evening, just to introduce a few people to Jesus? Could God really
use us in His eternal plan? As if we shouldn’t have already known the answer, God
answered these questions recently.

Many of you may have read the Desert Sun over Memorial Day weekend. There was a
whole display of our fallen Marines from 29 Palms that had died since the Iraq War
started. As I skimmed over the names and faces, I remembered one of them, and so did
my Brother in Christ, Chris.

Last summer I accepted an invitation to come and “witness” at a small carnival in 29
Palms. Yes, I was nervous! Of those people that God allowed me to witness too, I
remembered a short Marine from Massachusetts named David; and marveled that God
had two east coast guys together at a carnival, on the west coast. I had moved here a few
months earlier in June. The conversation with that Marine was memorable because he
had come up, and then left twice before I could finish presenting the Gospel. I remember
him coming back a third time and saying he thought he should hear the whole message.
As he listened, he finally understood that Jesus had died for him, and accepted Jesus
Christ as his Lord and Savior.

God’s love, and prompting of the Holy Spirit, was critical for David. As the newspaper
story tells of his death only a few months later in Iraq. David knows the truth now, and
undoubtedly is thankful for God’s messengers that came to that little carnival, and that
the carnival had allowed us to be there. I brought that newspaper layout to the Grub
Steak Days, to show other Marines how important that it was to not sit on the fence, but
to make a decision for Jesus Christ. I also used the story of the Marine that recently fell
on a grenade to save his fellow troops. I contrasted that Marine’s actions, to Jesus’
willingness to take the blows and death, meant for all of us; for our transgression. I
explained that Jesus had already absorbed their punishment and death, but that they
needed to claim what He did, by asking Jesus to be their Lord as well as Savior. It was
pointed out that their refusal to accept what Jesus did, was a kin to turning the Marine
who fell on the grenade over, and throwing down another grenade to render the sacrifice
of the Marine worthless to them. They then understood what a waste of a life that would
be, and how dishonoring to the one willing to die in their place. The Lord used these
stories and His Word to bring many Marines to Jesus at the Grub Stake Days, as we hope
they will again this year at 29 Palms.

In reality, none of us know when our time is up and we shall stand before God to give an
account for our life; therefore, we must live everyday for the Lord. Can you make a
difference for God? Ask David! Will he use you? Only if you are willing to be used!
Please consider making yourself available to bring the Gospel into this world. As I was
encouraged and invited, I now invite you, and pray that this story will encourage you to
come out with us. Finally, pray that those who run the carnival in 29 Palms will
understand how important this is for those willing to loose their lives to protect all of us.
Pray that we will have favor with them, for this very important outreach. May God bless
you!
